My name is Fernando, and I’m a landscape photographer from Portugal. My work is a visual exploration of the outdoors, a study of composition and the quiet stories found in the landscapes I encounter.
My journey began in the era of film, sparked by my sister’s work in a photo lab. I remember the anticipation of waiting for my rolls to be developed and the thrill of learning the craft with my first manual cameras, marveling at the magic of capturing light on a strip of celluloid. However, as the world transitioned into the digital age, life’s demands took over, and I stepped away from the viewfinder for more than twenty years.
That silence ended in 2019 during a visit to Serra da Estrela. Standing at the country’s highest peak, surrounded by those breathtaking, rugged landscapes, I felt a profound longing to capture the beauty before me. It was a turning point that reignited a dormant passion. I realized then that photography should be more than a mere document of a place; it should be a way to augment and enrich our experience of time and nature.
Today, I spend my time exploring the corners of the countryside that I am still discovering, visiting places for the first time and falling in love with the scenery as I find it. My heart is deeply rooted in the mountains, rolling hills, ancient forests, and the rush of rivers and waterfalls. While I am curious about the diverse textures of the coastline and plan to explore those shores in the future, my true pull remains toward the inland landscapes that first drew me back to this art.
My goal is simple but challenging: to produce images that allow for a personal and emotional interpretation of the subject. Whether I am fighting against the fading light to catch the perfect composition or wandering through a silent forest, I am searching for that sense of stillness and wonder.
Through this site, I invite you to step away from the noise of social media and explore these scenes through my eyes, a visual study of light, atmosphere, and the timeless character of the natural world.
